School Profile - Opportunities - Sport Sport is an integral part of school life at Davidson and there is a diversity of sporting opportunities and experiences on offer. WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON SPORT Wednesday afternoon sport has a nice balance of team, grade, individual and recreational sport. Intra-mural competition in the junior school (Moose League) is keenly contested by many house teams, with the competitions in each semester “going down to the wire” in the last week of play. Year 7, 8 and 9 continue to experience regular team competition in a variety of sports in Mooseleague over a period of 16 weeks. Students identify with their house group and vie for meaningful awards and rewards such as excursion days out. House teams rotate through a roster which provides variety and structured play, while staff remain on a sport for the duration of the competition. The following sports are regularly offered and are very popular with our students:
Recently Davidson High School has trialled some new options such as:
GRADE SPORT As part of the Combined Warringah and North Shore Zone Winter competition on Wednesday afternoons, we offer a full range of team sport for boys and girls in 15 years and open age groups. Additionally Davidson was the school in these combined zones that initiated Year 7 & 8 Grade Sport to cater for our younger students with interschool competition. Approximately 70% of our junior students play Grade Sport (interschool competition) at Davidson and we always seem to have our share of successful teams. YEAR 11 FLEXIBLE INDEPENDENT SPORTS PROGRAM With the advent of flexible timetables, vocational education and off-campus study, equitable delivery of a quality sports program for our senior year was increasingly problematic. Davidson solved this problem by allowing Year 11 students to undertake an independent sports program and submit regular logs of their experiences to satisfy DET requirements. This has proven to be another successful initiative for all concerned. CARNIVALS Attendance and participation continues to be high. House competition is embraced by many students in a true “carnival spirit” and these events are warmly regarded by participants, parents, spectators and staff alike. Davidson is frequently strongly represented in the zone, region and state in swimming, athletics and cross country, with several zone and regional champions. STATE KNOCKOUT COMPETITIONS AND REPRESENTATIVE TEAMS Davidson again offers a full range of CHS knockout Sports and opportunities to represent the zone, region and state in a variety of Sports. If students have ability in elite company, there is a pathway to representation at the highest levels. Finally, being behind a “Davo Sport” (irrespective of ability) is our mission. |
