School Profile - Learning Support Team

The Learning Support Team (LST) focuses on addressing the learning needs of students by ensuring that collaborative planning and programming occurs, that effective implementation strategies are in place, that available and appropriate school resources are being utilised, and that monitoring, assessment and reporting strategies have been agreed upon.

The LST considers the type and level of support that students require to address their curriculum, communication, social skills, personal care and safety and mobility needs. The team identifies and brings together key personnel within the school community who are most suitable to be involved in the delivery of the student’s learning program.

At Davidson, the LST performs a number of roles to ensure the learning needs of students are meet by:

  • developing the schools policy for students experiencing difficulties in learning

  • implementing ‘identification’ procedures in order that students experiencing difficulties in learning receive ‘early’ and appropriate intervention

  • developing referral systems for KLA teachers to access support services

  • implementing school ‘levels of support’ for classroom teachers in order that they can access appropriate personnel and cater for students experiencing difficulties in learning

  • establishing mechanisms to co-ordinate support personnel within the school

  • implementing mechanisms for on-going support services for students

  • providing direction for training and development programs

  • assisting in the selection, implementation and evaluation of resources for students experiencing difficulties in learning

  • establishing communication and liaison procedures within the school community

  • accessing effective models and programs to improve student outcomes
