School Profile - Gifted and Talented - GATEway

In 1998 Davidson High introduced a challenging new program designed at enriching our gifted and talented students in Years 7 and 8.

GATEway is based on accepted philosophies of Gifted and Talented education such as Bloom’s Taxonomy and the Multiple Intelligence Theory.

Students selected for GATEway are those who:

• gained entry to a selective high school but opted for Davidson High School, or

• demonstrate a commitment to achieving their personal best.

Each term, GATEway students focus on a theme and engage in learning experiences designed to develop a variety of intelligences.

Themes studied may include:

• forensic science

• inventions

• heroes and villains throughout history

• sport

• film and theatre

• travel

• food and nutrition

Through these themes the following skills may be developed:

• working with abstract concepts

• analysis of data

• report writing

• evaluation skills

• debating

• collaborative problem solving

• computer programming

• thinking laterally
