Courses

Mathematics in Years 7 – 10 is a mandatory Board of Studies subject.

Year 7 study a common course as a group. During the year they have three common assessment tasks.

Year 8 classes are graded on the basis of their performance in the Year 7 assessment tasks and the course work is structured to suit the capability of each class. Year 8 students also participate World of Maths which is a hands on problem solving activity.

Year 9 and 10 students follow one of three pathways through the Stage 5 course. These pathways are designed to be suitable for differing ability levels.

In Year 11 there are three courses of study available.

General Mathematics is a non-calculus based course emphasising the application of Mathematics in measurement, data analysis, probability, financial mathematics and algebraic modelling.

Mathematics is a course designed for students who will need a knowledge of calculus and higher level algebraic techniques for future studies.

Mathematics Extension 1 expands on the Mathematics course.

In Year 12 the most capable students have an opportunity to study Extension 2 in Mathematics which is a very demanding but rewarding course.
