School Profile - Opportunities - Eco Club
The Eco Club is now in it 5th year! Davidson High School is the
only school in the Northern Sydney Region that offers an Environmental Club to
students.
WHAT DOES THE ECO CLUB DO?
Are you interested in the environment and taking care of our
planet? Would you like to have fun with other club members? Do you like working
as a team on issues that concern you? Do you have a passion for growing plants,
painting murals, selling herbs, recycling or fund raising for endangered
species?
These are some of the many activities that the Eco Club members at
Davidson High School participate in each week on Thursday at lunch time. We
welcome any new budding environmentalists to our cause!
2006 and 2007 highlights for the Eco Club include:
-
Three new garden beds have been built for growing even ore
herbs and plants. Funds were from Eco Club's fund raising and Warringah
Council's Eco Grant!
-
Sponsoring "Mowgli" a three year old Orang-utan from the
Borneo Nature Reserve in Sabah, Malaysia.
-
The Eco Club's new product called "worm juice" which is
straight from the worms and a very good fertiliser.
-
Eco Club eagerly took up the last minute challenge offered to
schools in the "Easy being Green Campaign", with an offer of $5.00 for every
household registered to reduce greenhouse gases. We raised 375 valuable
dollars.
-
Davidson's "Green Day" was even bigger and greener that the
year before with funds being raised for Endangered Species.
-
New trophies were awarded by the Eco Club: A senior award to
Vanessa Cheah for contribution throughout high school on environmental
issues and junior awards to Natalie Baker and Toby Williams for their
environmental commitment. Congratulations to these recipients!
-
Excursions to the Warringah "Testing the Water" Day,
Sustainability Forum and Kimbriki Eco Gardens. Each trip was an excellent
day out!
WHAT ARE SOME OF OUR PLANS?
-
To plant new herbs and vegetables in the three new garden
beds.
-
To design a renewable solar energy project.
-
To start planning for Green Day 2008!
