School Profile - Opportunities - Drama Drama at Davidson High School caters for a wide variety of skills and abilities. Years 7/8 students all participate for at least one semester in the Drama program. Auditioned ensemble groups rehearse after school performing in a whole range of performing contexts. Elective Drama, Years 9 and 10, study in a broad range of theatrical styles and conventions through both practical and theoretical studies. From the study of scripts students broaden their literary understanding. Design tasks teach vocationally relevant skills while engaging students conceptually and fostering an appreciation for drama as a performing art. The study of dramatic elements via improvisation, role play and play building tasks encourage creativity team work, spontaneity and self discipline. Students completing the two unit Drama at Davidson High School perform extremely well in the HSC. The course complements many other senior level subjects. A high standard of performance is achieved through the many varied opportunities students are able to participate in throughout students’ school life. These range from the Annual Season of Performing Arts (4 shows at the Glen Street Theatre), POW (Performing Opportunity Workshops), Drama studio nights, Fast and Fresh, Page to the Stage, the Regional drama and state drama festivals, On Stage, Short film competitions, various Sydney Festival events and many other internal school events. Drama builds students’ communication skills and self esteem. Through events requiring teamwork and/or individual achievement. Drama at Davidson is fun and rewarding. |
